Whole 30~ Bring it On!!!

If someone told me 3 months ago that I would be cutting out all sugar and carbohydrates from my diet I would of laughed at them.  Joining Canyon Crossfit has not only given me the kick in the butt that I needed to start working out again but has also changed my thought process on the foods I eat.  I grew up eating tons of sugary foods and many carbalious meals, but that all changed on Monday January 16th.  I decided to take part in a Performance Nutrition Experience which is derived from the Whole 30 program.  This Experience is over a 60 day period and includes a WOD, before and after pictures (which were very disturbing and may be posted after the challenge :-)), a performance goal (mine being doing a pull up) as well as taking part in the Whole 30 program which is based off a Paleo diet.  The WOD includes, a 400 m run followed by "Cindy" which is 5 pulls up, 10 push ups, and 15 air squats.  Following "Cindy" you do 21 dead lifts then repeat run and Cindy then 15 front squats repeat run and Cindy and finish with 9 clean & jerk.  The weight is the same for each lift and you are competing for time.  WOW talk about a workout eh? At the end of the Experience it is required to write an essay to share in your experiences.   Oh and I can not forget to mention that there will be a cash prize for the winner, yes this is a competition, therefore I come and play to win!!! ;-)

How did I get involved in Canyon Cross Fit?
I moved to California December 16th, after graduating from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.  My husband and I have been living with my In-Laws and my father in law and a few of our friends from church are members of Canyon Crossfit.  We were eager to get into our LGN (If you don't know what this means then you may ask ;-P) bodies and this was a perfect way to do it.  My husband and I are ex-athletes and unfortunately let our weight get out of control post competing and thought it was OK to eat the same as we did when we were competing.  The first WOD was brutal, let's just say we were not used to lifting the way we used to.  The next day was even worse, I couldn't straighten my right arm and my whole body was in agony.  I guess my body was paying me back for not taking good care of it?!?  From the first workout until now I have been excited about continuing my journey to lose weight and feel better about myself.

Now back to the Performance Nutrition Experience...
When I heard Canyon Crossfit was doing this challenge, I was super excited but at the same time a little uneasy about making such a big change in my life.  I knew this change was what I needed in order to feel good about myself.  This last week has been so rewarding as I have been excited about learning more about the Whole 30 program.  My body feels healthier already and I can notice a change in my weight.  In my free time (which I have a lot of as I am currently looking for a job) I look for fun and yummy looking recipes that my husband, father-in-law and myself can enjoy.  At first I thought that the meals we ate were going to be bland and boring but they are actually pretty good.  I made some Paleo approved zucchini cakes that were really good.  I found the recipe on this website that I recommend to check out if you are doing this diet www.paleodietlifestyle.com. My father-in-law made Spaghetti substituting the Pasta for Spaghetti squash, and is was dang good!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my first post of my journey to lose weight and become a healthier person.  I will be updating my progress weekly so please come check it out...

If you are struggling with your weight or eating I strongly recommend you check out this Whole 30 Program.  Here is the website if you are interested. http://whole9life.com/2012/01/whole-30-v2012/

Have a great day and until next time...
